Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has debunked reports insinuating that its sweepers in the state were being paid N10,000 monthly.
The Authority, in a press release on Wednesday, stated that there was no iota of truth in the report allegedly attributed to one of the local government chairmen in the state, quoted to have said that he had increased sweepers’ allowance in his area, from N10,000 to N20,000.
LAWMA categorically stated that, the monthly salary of a sweeper is N25,000, irrespective of the local government area, adding that the welfare of sweepers working for the organisation had been prioritised.
The Authority said that the well-being of its workforce, especially sweepers manning various routes in the metropolis, was of high importance, as efforts were being made to ensure that every worker in the agency operated in a conducive environment.
LAWMA reiterated its unalloyed commitment to making sure that every nook and cranny of the state was rid of waste pollution and called on residents to play their own part by bagging their wastes and patronising assigned PSP operators.
